NOVA Donates to Navajo United Way

Navajo United Way

NOVA Corporation employees donated portions of their paychecks this Christmas to the Navajo United Way.  The Navajo United Way goes beyond temporary fixes to create lasting change in communities on the Navajo Reservation. This is achieved by bringing people and organizations together around innovative solutions regarding education, income and health.  The donations are part of NOVA’s annual Keshmish (Christmas in Navajo) Drive.  Each Christmas NOVA selects a worthy cause and gives employees a chance to contribute through monetary and other donations.  Navajo-owned NOVA Corporation is honored to be able to assist the Navajo United Way this year.

NOVA Donates Laptops to Navajo Adolescent Care Unit

NOVA has donated its refurbished laptops to the Adolescent Care Unit at Tséhootsooí Medical Center in Fort Defiance, Arizona.  The Adolescent Care Unit is a 12 bed facility for at risk youth, ages 13-17, with psychiatric and/or substance abuse issues.

The majority of the patients at the Adolescent Care Unit (ACU) do not have access to computers or the internet in their respective communities.  The donated laptops will be utilized by in-patient Navajo students, many of which have dropped out of school and are now making efforts to further their education.  With these laptops, students can earn credits though an online recovery program.

NOVA donated the laptops as part of its mission to give back to the Navajo Nation.  NOVA’s Interim CEO, Clara Pratte, said, “We aim to increase educational opportunities for Navajo youth so that they can branch out and become business leaders for the next generation.  We provide scholarships and internships for them.  Donating these laptops falls right in line with what we hope to accomplish, and it’s truly a pleasure to share this gift with the Adolescent Care Unit at Tséhootsooí Medical Center.”

NOVA Corporation, has given a gift of $5000 to El Ranchito de los Niños.  El Ranchito de los Niños is a children’s home located in Los Lunas, NM, that offers a family farm setting and strives to keep siblings together.

NOVA made the donation as part of its annual Keshmish Drive (“Keshmish” is Christmas in the Navajo language).  Employees were given the opportunity to donate with NOVA Corporation matching each employee contribution.  The NOVA team was pleased to present a check for $5000 to the children’s home just before Christmas.

NOVA CEO, John Snider said, “El Ranchito de los Niños has a vital and positive impact on the lives of area children, and in particular, Native American children.  Once I heard that this outstanding resource receives no state or federal funding, and survives solely on donations, it was clear they should be this year’s recipient of our annual Keshmish Drive.”

Mary Spring, Development Director at El Ranchito de los Niños, said, “Words cannot express how thrilled and grateful we are to receive such a generous gift from NOVA.  We appreciate their visits to play with the children and their financial support.  This $5000 donation will go a long way toward helping us with operational costs and providing for our children.  We appreciate that NOVA, a Navajo company, is reaching out to help Navajo children, along with the other children here at El Ranchito de los Niños.”
